- How did you get into NLP?
It started in 1998 I was attending a seminar with one of the most famous coaches in Italy called Livio Sgarbi. On stage he asked if there was someone in the room who had a particular fear. And the guy next to me raised his hand and said: "Yes, I have a fear of cockroaches".
And so he went on stage and they talked. At the time I didn't know what Livio was doing. The guy came off the stage, and the day after he called me on the phone and said: "Oh, Alessandro, you know I'm flicking a cockroach off the wall with my fingers. I could never have done this before." And in that second I said to myself: "Wow, I've just got learn this stuff."
So I began my Practitioner training and then I did the Master Practitioner. I did NLP a lot in between times, practising on people and getting it right. So my first training was in 1998 and my Trainer Training was in 2004. I did six years of absolutely practising all the time. I was already a trainer in communication skills at the time, so I applied NLP in whatever I did. And when I was absolutely ready to go for the next step I decided to go to Orlando for the Trainer Training - and from then I began to teach Practitioner and Master Practitioner.
I mainly work in Italy. I have a one year programme called Master In Coaching. The idea is to create coaches. I teach Practitioner and Master Practitioner and public speaking skills, seminar skills - all these kinds of things just to create a valuable coach that can work with people and get good results.
And I teach this all year long in Italy. When I'm not in Italy I follow Richard here in London where he's training - or wherever else he appears - including the USA. I am all over the world with Richard.
- What's it like seeing him time and time again?
Well, you know, he is the top of my field. So, every single time I come here, I have the chance to see him and John at work - and when I go back, I change my seminars to keep up with the new ideas he is using.
There are so many things to learn, to look for, that every single time I get a little more detail, and I add it to my training.
For me it is a great chance to improve my skills.
- Do you enjoy working with the delegates - often people who haven't experienced NLP before?
I love giving skills to people. I love it when I can improve the life of a person. I studied medicine so my background was in medicine but at a certain moment I realised it was not my real calling. I wanted to be with people who want to push themselves to another level. And I want to give them skills.
I love being with positive people who want to learn. That's my real calling.
- Okay, final question: Why do all the girls love Alessandro Mora?
(Laughs) It only happens here in London! Maybe it's a strategy someone needs to elicit from me!
No, but seriously, I think that people warm to the passion that I put into my work. I found that I have a great talent in using my energy. I love it when people say to me that when I see you I feel better because you are smiling. So, really, I think it's because I smile a lot.
- Alessandro Mora, thank you very much!
