PROFILE
Delegate's Name: Richard Rippon-Swaine
Age: 35
Job: Country Manager, for oil and gas giant AMEC.
NLP Context: Business and Personal Life
NLP LIFE TRAINING course attended: NLP Licensed Practitioner Course, London, 2009
Although he is new to NLP himself, Richard Rippon-Swaine explains how he heard about the course:
"A colleague of mine has done this NLP Prac course, and is also a Master Practitioner of NLP. He got talking to me about what it can offer. I realised that it was something that interested me, and that I should come along to the course and see what it was about."
- So, what exactly does it mean to be a country manager? And what country is it that you manage?
"The country I manage is Azerbaijan, where I work as the MD of a business for Amec. I have over 300 people working for me, and I manage them with a very small management team. I also liaise with local suppliers to the oil and gas industry, ensuring that operations and relationships run smoothly."
- How will NLP help you?
"It will definitely help me in my business and personal life," he replies. "I am sure it will be highly effective with managing and developing relationships with partners and with clients that I have in Azerbaijan. It will also be useful in my day-to-day dealings with members of staff, enabling me to build rapport and influence them, using some of these skills.
- Your opinion of the course?
"Really good, actually. Really good. I like the way the course is set out. Because I'm quite a high level learner, I like the way that they talk high level to start with and then gradually they build up the detail. By the end of course, without even realising it, I learned a lot. That's something I really like."
- What other aspects of the course grabbed you?
"I also liked the tools and techniques. The whole course has taught me to think about things differently. I realise now that it is quite easy to change people's states, to get people to think about what state they are in - and to move them into more resourceful states."
- How will you be able to use that state change effectively?
"I think the thing I have realised is that it is quite simple to communicate with people and get them to think about certain goals that they want, and where they are now and where they would like to be and get them to set in their own mind that they are on a path to go and achieve those goals. The techniques are very clear indeed."
- Would you recommend the course to others?
"Oh, yes. Without a doubt."
