It's true to say that at NLP LIFE TRAINING's courses, you will meet people from all walks of life.  From teachers to General Practitioners, from soldiers to writers, from salesmen to psychologists, you will meet people from every profession under the sun. But when I came to meet Jakob Sverre Lovstad, an imposing figure with a strong physique and a sharp intelligent eye, I was surprised to find out how many different walks of life can be rolled into one person. After all, it isn't every international cage fighter you meet who is studying a PhD in computing and has written one of Norway's best selling books on the art of seduction...

I catch up with Jakob on the final day of the NLP Practitioner course, just after he has received his certificate.  He's looking very pleased with the way the course has gone - but what what does he think about it?

"It's been great.  I'm really happy right now. I've just learned a whole lot of good theory and I'm very excited.  And today - it's been a super finish!"

- How will you be using the NLP you've learned?

...you might say I'm one of the more 'mental' fighters - if you get my ambiguity!

"I first started using NLP some years ago in my role as a cage fighter.  That's why I started doing it, and where I've been using it since.  But on this course I've learned a lot more about how to put it all together more efficiently and see the whole overview - the big picture of it."

- How exactly do you use your NLP with the cage fighting?

"Well, it really helps - especially with those really nervous moments when you have to fight and you're getting into the cage. It's what we call "the longest walk" in cage fighting: from the locker room into the cage.  For these really important points I really needed some mental training and that's where NLP comes in handy. It reduces stress and gets you thinking about what you want to think about."

- And how many cage fights have you done so far?

"So far I've done 17 professional fights. I've actually been doing cage fighting for a little more than ten years, now."

- Have you won them all?

"Not quite."  (He smiles.) "13 wins, 4 losses, so it's a decent record."

I look at him, hovering over me and consider what it must be like confronting him in the ring.  - How tall are you?

"I'm 6 foot 4 inches.  My fighting name is: "The Striking Viking". (He laughs)."

He catches my surprise that he has given the the measurements in Imperial measure rather than metric and explains:

"Aha!  Surprised?  I fight in America and England as well, so I'm used to doing feet and inches.  So before you ask, I'm 205 pounds."

- As well as being a cage fighter, I hear that you have other talents.  I understand you have a PhD?

"Nearly.  I have done four years on my PhD for Performance Engineering, which is to do with computer systems.  So you might say I'm one of the more 'mental' fighters - if you get my ambiguity!"

- But this is not the end to your talents?

"That's true. (He smiles again) In Norway, I published a book this January.  It's a seduction manual. I wrote it because so many men don't have a clue how to talk to women. It's been selling very well - in fact, it's the publisher's bestselling book.  So I like doing all sorts of different stuff."

- And do you intend to use the NLP elsewhere?

"Sure, I also do coaching.  That's my main job, really.  Me and my girlfriend, Silje, work together on coaching.  It is my profession, so I'll be using NLP both in my sports and in making a living. With the coaching that's the current direction we are taking."

- So, tell me more about the coaching company...

"Sure, right now it's called the "Mu Coaching".  It's a fun little thing because a lot of our friends call us 'the mus', as in 'the cows'.  So, she is basically little mu and I am big mu.  It's fun, but serious, too.  We've done everything from clinical work with people who have Tourette's syndrome, depressions, phobias, anxieties and so on, to corporate clients who just want to reach their goals in business and life (which has all been going really well - super results so far!)."

- Do you think you'll take your skills further at a future Master Practitioner course?

"Yes, we want to.  We'll be practising what we've already learned, and then we'll be back for some more!"
